Captain Kyle Nutting is an Assistant Professor of Military Science for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Army ROTC Program, Lincoln, Neb.
Captain Kyle Nutting was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and is a fourth-generation U.S. servicemember. He served seven years as an enlisted Infantryman from 2006 to 2013 before commissioning as an Infantry Officer through the University of Tampa Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in May 2017. CPT Nutting and his wife, Lauren, have been married for 17 years and have three sons: James (9), Nolan (7), and Grant (4).
CPT Nutting began his enlisted career with the 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, California, serving as a Rifleman and Team Leader from 2006 to 2009. He then served in the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy, from 2009 to 2013, holding positions as Reconnaissance Section Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Sergeant.
After commissioning, CPT Nutting served as a Reconnaissance Platoon Leader in the 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Airborne) in Alaska from 2018 to 2021. He subsequently served in the 1st Stryker Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, as the Brigade Assistant S3 from 2021 to 2022. He later commanded Bayonet Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, and Eagle Troop, 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, from 2022 to 2024. Most recently, he served as a Combat Advisor in the 4th Security Forces Assistance Brigade from 2024 to 2025.
CPT Nutting has deployed three times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2010, 2012, 2018) and once in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (2022).
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters and Combat Device), Army Achievement Medal (with three Oak Leaf Clusters and Combat Device), Army Good Conduct Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Unit Citation (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (three awards), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (four awards), and the NATO Medal (two awards).
His special skill badges and tabs include the Ranger Tab, Master Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Basic Parachutist Badge.
